I had to be awake early the other day and set my computer to startup and wake me. I forgot to disable that command today and was awakened again by the 12″ version of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence.” Luckily, I love that song, so it wasn’t such a bad thing. I lifted the covers and, as she does every morning, Pixie jumped in bed and curled up against my side, resting her head on my arm. Maybe she wanted to be all I ever wanted, all I ever needed, there, in my arms. Words were very unnecessary, so she yawned and make a noise that sounded like a squeaky dog toy being run over by a steamroller while I lay in bed, thinking about how Depeche Mode’s Violator album has seen me through the Anything Goes cast party, high school graduation, driving to Orlando, Visage, Zootz, Portland nights, New York City days, my hell’s kitchen apartment, lazy days in Central Park, great loves, one night stands, up and downs, moving to Houston, and apparently it’s been my startup song on my computer since last May. Big thanks to Jed for talking the boy in the yearbook photo below into buying the “Enjoy the Silence” cassingle way back when.
